Organizational Profile

Home Support Nova Scotia Association (HSNSA) was formed in 1983 to be the voice for the home support industry in Nova Scotia. Originally incorporated as the Nova Scotia Association of Homemaker Services, the name changed in 1990 to reflect the expansion of services being provided under the umbrella of home support.

Over the last two decades HSNSA has provided leadership in health care to educate and inform stakeholders of the important and diverse role of home support in the health care continuum. The Association has been an effective advocate for the development and implementation of educational standards for individuals providing home support services. HSNSA continues to play an important role in the development and delivery of educational resources and programs.

The core objectives of HSNSA are:
  1. To enable agencies to approach government in an organized fashion with common concerns about home support services in Nova Scotia.

  2. To be a resource to government as part of the home support services network.

  3. To address the common concerns of the Home Support Industry.

HSNSA is currently comprised of home support agencies, representing over 6,000 clients and more than 1,500 home support workers. The Association remains a valuable resource for individuals, agencies and sector partners within the continuing care field.
